The temporary Land Surveyor (Mr.B.W.Grey)

off 1999.92.

appointed in 1899 on a salary of/1999.92. On the recon-

mendation of the Director of Public Works this was increased

in June last to $2,400 at which figure it is proposed the sa-

lary should stand in future.

The increase in salary of one overseer

for Kowloon Water Works from $960 to $1200 was made in Janu-

ary as it was found impossible to obtain a suitable candidate

at the former rate.

The overseer at $1440 is employed on the

New Law Courts and the Governor's Peak Residence.

Allowance for upkeep of a te pony (us

der conveyance) to one Executive Engineer has been increased

from $144 to $216 because for the former sum it is not possi-

ble now to pay for the keep of a pony.

Five allowances for conveyance for Over-

seers previously charged to the Works on which they were emTM

ployed are now shown on the Estimates.

8. Post Office.

The appointment of an extra clerk at $1200 at Shang-

hai has been reported in Governor's despatch No.386 of the
